Submissions for
Place: The Magazine

Here are the rules:

Reading/viewing period: All year round.

Place: The Magazine takes a unique approach to publishing. We will keep each of our issues open to both submissions and updates for as long as that place and its content are relevant. Issues are meant to be guides, referents and applicable works of art.

If your work is accepted, it is added to a place and referenced on our index page as "New at Place" for at least two weeks.

In addition, a specific place will be featured on our index page for at least one month and your work may be featured in this format.

Suggestions for future places are welcome.

Payment/rights: We do not offer payment at this exact moment in time. Yet that will likely change as of another moment in time. We acquire First North American Serial Rights; all rights revert to the author upon publication.

Mechanics: We do not accept postal mail submissions. All mail submissions will be recycled and no reply will be sent. We do not consider previously published material. We prefer prose under 7,000 words; query via email for larger works. Please note simultaneous submissions and kindly alert us if a submission is accepted elsewhere or we will hunt you down and take away your crayons.

Please do not submit more than once per month for Prose/Poetry. And limit yourself to four submissions of Pictures per month. All Prose/Poetry entries should be double-spaced and include the following inside the document:

  • Author name, phone, email, address

  • Title

  • Word count

You may submit to the following categories:

  • Prose (Word, .txt or .rtf document)
  • Poetry
  • (same)
  • Pictures (up to 1 mb each - .JPG)

We do NOT accept: Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror, Romance or any other shredded lettuce of a form.

Additional, IMPORTANT considerations: We believe strongly in a traditional model of publication; one in which the editor and the author work together to produce a publishable work. Therefore, submissions will be edited. Please do not submit if you are not comfortable with this. Please DO read our Manifesto of Place prior to submission.

Issues are based on place, so please make sure your submissions are appropriately related to the place you choose on the Submissions page.
